Yonkers OCT Scan For Early Stage Retinal Disease: Eye Exam Services Announced
May 14, 2023
Westchester Eyes ((914) 586-3937), a specialized optometry practice in Yonkers, has announced its new OCT scan service to identify retinal disease.
Yonkers, United States - May 14, 2023 /PressCable/ —
The practice anticipates that this announcement will encourage more Yonkers residents struggling with blurred vision due to glaucoma or other retinal-related issues to seek its specialized treatment. By issuing patients optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans, the optometrists at Westchester Eyes can identify the root cause of their symptoms and design a personalized treatment plan from there.

With this announcement, Westchester Eyes offers a non-invasive but comprehensive method for identifying early-stage glaucoma or macular degeneration to help slow the development of these conditions. In addition to these common issues, the practice's OCT scans can identify retinal detachment, retinitis pigmentosa, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal tears.
An OCT scan is considered to be the most effective method available for identifying and diagnosing retinal conditions. During this process, cross-sectional images are taken of the retina by light waves, providing the optometrist with detailed information about the thickness of the retina's layers so they can accurately identify retinal diseases even in their early stages. Catching retinal diseases early on can allow patients to take preventative measures to slow the deterioration process and potentially avoid surgery.
During a comprehensive eye exam, the optometrists at Westchester Eyes can issue an OCT scan for patients experiencing blurred vision, darkened areas in the center of the visual field, or changes in color perception, all of which can be symptoms of more serious retinal conditions. If early-stage glaucoma is detected, the optometry practice can prescribe one of the leading brands of recently developed, advanced eye drops that slow the progress of this disease.
