Virginia Inventor Delivers on the Cake Box of Her Dreams

Aug 5, 2022

A sweet story of perseverance and creativity began covered in buttercream frosting: The Sugar Cube, a new kind of cake box, is now available for purchase online.

The Sugar Cube inventor Sheila Bedwell

The Sugar Cube, a new type of cake box, was invented by Sheila Bedwell of Wytheville, Virginia.

WYTHEVILLE, Va. - August 5, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

Over two decades ago, Virginia inventor Sheila Bedwell found herself frosted in frustration while delivering a birthday cake. The center pole cake was quickly collapsing and needed reinforcement. A creative problem-solver, Bedwell grabbed her son's building blocks and fashioned some support, all while thinking, "There has to be a better way." An idea was sparked, The Sugar Cube was born, and Bedwell founded Grace of God Industries (GOGI), LLC to serve as a parent company for future ideas.

Knowing that her buttercream-covered pains were shared by bakers everywhere, and having struggled with flimsy cake boxes before, Bedwell knew that this box had to be something different. She painstakingly adapted design after design to make sure everything worked the way she knew careful cake artists would need it to work. It needed to help keep a cake cool, steady, and smudge-free. She wanted it to be affordable, accessible, and easily stored. A tall order, even for a cake baker.

A final patent pending design was approved in early 2022 after years of careful consideration, countless prototypes, and lots of faith. Bedwell, with her investors, selected manufacturers and shipping providers out of Bristol, Tennessee to fulfill orders from her new online shop. The Sugar Cube's website includes a how-to video, product photos, and Molly the Frog—The Sugar Cube's lovable affinity character.

The Sugar Cube comes in two different sizes:

  • Single Tier Cake Box - 12" x 12" x 8"
  • Two Tier Cake Box - 12" x 12" x 12"

Prices start at just $39.95. It is reusable and designed to last.

The Sugar Cube cake box features:

  • An interlocking cake tray with hand-shaped cut-outs to allow for clean and easy transfers to and from the box.
  • Two handles for secure side carrying. No swinging cakes from a single handle allowed here.
  • Sturdy, easy-to-clean surfaces. Just wipe it down and rinse.

"I wish I had The Sugar Cube 20 years ago," said Bedwell, "but now is the perfect time to take it to market."
