Drug-facilitated molestation by a medical professional often goes unreported due to victims’ concerns they won’t be believed, or that they will be unfairly scrutinized, intensifying an already traumatic ordeal. With an expansion of legal services to include this form of sexual abuse, Kat Thomas of Thomas Legal Counselors at Law, and the Abuse Guardian, a national alliance of sexual abuse lawyers ensures victims are believed, and supported, and that they have access to an experienced team of attorneys willing to fight for the compensation they are entitled to.
“If you’ve been sexually abused by a medical professional, you have the right to an attorney that treats you with dignity and respect, and who will fight tenaciously on your behalf for the justice and compensation you deserve,” says Thomas. “We understand the implicit power imbalance between doctors and their patients and we are here to bring doctors who exploit their position of power to account.”
In New York, the statute of limitations for reporting sexual abuse by a doctor varies depending on the type of legal action survivors wish to pursue. There are different timeframes for civil lawsuits and criminal prosecutions, and several different legal options available to victims. Thomas and her team help victims of drug-facilitated molestation in a medical setting understand their options so they can make informed decisions within the required timeframe.
Both Thomas and the Abuse Guardian alliance stress that any sexual contact or behavior between a medical professional and a patient is considered abuse, irrespective of the circumstances. They acknowledge the pain, trauma, and confusion victims of any type of sexual abuse can suffer and are committed to empowering their clients as they seek justice and compensation for having been violated in this way.
Thomas offers complimentary, confidential consultations, and strongly encourages individuals who believe they’ve been a victim of drug-facilitated molestation by a medical professional to step forward in order to pursue justice and restitution.
