April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and in response to this Raybin & Weissman, P.C. awarded three $1,000 scholarships to winners of their annual Stop Texting and Driving Contest on Monday morning. The contest requires students to create and submit a video highlighting effective ways to stop cases of texting and driving. Now that the issue of texting and driving is a national epidemic, more attention is focused on this problem than many others.

According to David Weissman, Nashville Injury Attorney, “Each year we host a scholarship ceremony for the local winners of the Stop Texting and Driving campaign. This year, our ceremony took place on April 24th. During this award ceremony, we presented three $1,000 scholarships to winners. This scholarship coincides with distracted Driving Awareness month, which occurs every April.”

For this contest, students created short videos that helped in fighting against car accidents in Nashville as well as crashes across the nation that resulted from distracted driving. Winners from three different categories were selected, which included the best entry from the entire US, the best entry from the state of Tennessee and the best video entry from Davidson County.

“Our attorneys are handling more and more cases involving distracted drivers,” Weissman continued. “Not only are we seeing more serious injuries from distracted drivers, but those causing and being injured in these accidents are getting younger and younger. This scholarship program was our opportunity to bring attention to the issue and help prevent even more accidents in the future.”

Drivers in the state of Tennessee have been ranked as the worst in the United States for cell phone distractions.
