Statistics from PETA show that of the 1.2 million dogs euthanized each year, 40% are pit bulls. The misconception that pit bulls are a violent breed has led many owners to abandon their pets.
Such was the case with Auggie who, together with two other litter mates, were discovered in Georgia by Friends to the Forlorn Pit Bull Rescues. While all pups were in good health, it was discovered that Auggie could not walk because of problems with his hind legs.
However, this did not deter Iris, who would become Auggie’s foster mom during his stay at the animal shelter. The report highlights different steps that owners can take to rehabilitate a dog’s mobility so they can live as normal a life as possible.
In the case of Auggie, this involved getting surgery for hip dysplasia to help the pup improve his mobility. In the succeeding months, supplementary treatments such as physical therapy and acupuncture also helped strengthen his hind legs.
The report is an inspiring and true-to-life tale of a dog’s will to walk and his foster mom’s determination to make it happen. Auggie is now looking for a forever home and those who wish to adopt him may contact Friends to the Forlorn Pit Bull Rescues.
