The newly announced app helps travellers in Lyon save money on their purchases by providing a quick and convenient way to recoup their VAT reimbursements. The Wevat app enables users to claim their refunds digitally, thereby avoiding paper documentation and mail-in requests.

While VAT rules can be applied differently in every European country, the standard VAT rate in France is 20 per cent. Travellers living outside the EU are not obliged to pay this tax. Newly announced services by VAT refund app Wevat now help travellers to Lyon recoup at least 13 per cent of the taxes they were charged while dining and shopping in the city. Compared to in-store VAT refund providers, Wevat provides refunds that are 23 per cent higher.

“We are excited about providing a convenient and hassle-free way for travellers to Lyon, France to access their VAT refunds,” says Wevat co-founder and CEO, Raphael Chow. “The Wevat app makes tax-free shopping convenient, efficient and reliable for all non-EU travellers."

The Wevat app allows travellers to bypass receipts filing, documentation, and mail-in procedures with technology that instantly scans sales receipts at their point of purchase. The app stores all receipts on the user's phone and transforms VAT refund entitlements into a barcode that travellers scan at any Wevat supported departure kiosk throughout Lyon.

Travellers and online shoppers alike can download the app from either the Apple Store or Google Play to register their ID and choose their refund deposit method. There are no partner store restrictions and refunds can be generated in one of 50 different currencies by credit card, bank transfer, AliPay, or WeChat Pay. Users will get up-to-date notifications on the progress of their refunds and can monitor the process using the app’s built-in tracking feature.

Users also have access to a multilingual Wevat support team should they have questions or concerns.

A recent Wevat user says, “Had a great experience with Wevat. Just got back to the UK from France yesterday and the tax refunds are already in my bank account. There’s also the advantage of not having to walk around with my passport, plus asking for receipts is much easier than the paper tax refund method, in my experience.”
