She would get blackout drunk and then have a “shame hangover” that included staying home for days, binge eating, and otherwise putting life her goals on hold. Then, anxiety would strike, triggering a response in which Sauser would find herself repeating the cycle. “This is a special kind of hell I wish upon no one,” said Sauser. “Which leads me to the five steps I used to break free of this ‘drinking shame cycle’ and achieve a booze-less and healthy, happy lifestyle.”
