Immersive Narrated Reader App For Children: Reading Comprehension Aid Launched

The Firm Foundation Academy has announced the launch of WholeReader, a free immersive reading software used to help children improve English literacy.

Firm Foundation Academy’s WholeReader app features a collection of K to 12 children’s books from renowned authors such as Beatrix Potter, Katharine Pyle, Edith Nesbit, and Louisa May Alcott. The books are read aloud to the children to improve their retention and comprehension.

WholeReader utilizes an immersive reading technique, which optimizes a child’s understanding and vocabulary acquisition by engaging both the eyes and the ears simultaneously. Similar to how people remember songs, by adding the rhythmic element of narration to the text, children more easily remember what they are reading, and as a result, can interact with the literature on a deeper level.
After downloading the app, the parent must sign their child up for a placement test. This test determines their starting reading level in order to prepare a personalized collection of suitable books for them to read. Once the test is complete, the child gains full access to a collection of recommended books and can start reading them immediately.
Parents are encouraged to assign their children daily reading goals; Firm Foundation Academy recommends they strive for 45 minutes each day. The child’s reading time is tracked at the bottom of the screen, and compiled into a weekly report that the parent receives at the end of each week. Every two months, the child can retake the placement test and move up the literacy ladder.
Firm Foundation Academy suggests that children aim to read at a 97% comprehension level for optimal learning, leaving just 3% of new words to remember. According to the company, most children see dramatic changes after just two weeks.
The WholeReader app includes thousands of books to choose from, with more titles being added daily. In addition to children’s books, the library includes other genres such as novels, verse, ideas, history, science, and Christianity. Gifted voice actors specializing in text dictation narrate all of the books.
“With WholeReader, you don’t just read a book, you listen to it, too, and it helps you improve your pronunciation,” said a current user. “I’m learning many new words every day that I never would have been able to learn in English at school.”
