Icarus Behavioral Health Warns About the Risks of at Home Detox for Drugs and Alcohol and More in Newly Released Resources

April 28, 2023 - /PressAdvantage/ - Icarus Behavioral Health, a premier mental health treatment center in Albuquerque, NM, has recently published three new resources to help people struggling with an addiction. The first article warns about the risks of cold turkey alcohol detox. The second resource discusses the convenience of Icarus Behavioral Health's drug rehab services for people living in Socorro, New Mexico. The third article explains the effectiveness of group therapy for people struggling with substance use disorder.

A spokesperson for Icarus says, “Are you thinking about doing an alcohol detox at home? Detox is often one of the most challenging yet ultimately rewarding processes that someone can go through. In the first article, we give you advice on how to prepare a home alcohol detox. Note that this process can be dangerous and that it is far better to do an alcohol detox with trained professionals who can give you professional medical advice.”

They want to point out to those who insist on doing an alcohol detox at home have to be aware that going cold turkey with alcohol can result in withdrawal symptoms that can be fatal. There are many reasons why people struggling with an alcohol addiction should avoid alcohol detox at home. One of the key reasons is that those who try to do an alcohol detox at home are isolating themselves from professional assistance and support. Those who go through detox require access to medical professionals who can ensure that the patient is comfortable and safe. If the patient has a health issue, the medical professionals would be able to watch the patient closely and ensure that the detox process will not worsen the health condition.

Other reasons for avoiding detox at home, include: the possibility of experiencing serious side effects like seizures, delirium tremens, and death; the possibility of getting tempted to use dangerous over-the-counter drugs or other substances to provide relief from the withdrawal symptoms; and not having access to vital resources and medications that can be vital for a successful detox since they can make the process much more comfortable and easier. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) can help by minimizing cravings, withdrawal symptoms, and other adverse effects of alcohol addiction.

The second article is about substance abuse treatment in Socorro, NM as provided by Icarus. They offer medical detox, inpatient or residential treatment, outpatient treatment, and medication management. They always use evidence-based practices, such as dialectical behavior therapy, which they specialize in. This type of therapy is based on a mindful approach to mental health, teaching patients how to observe their feelings and how to tolerate stress.

The third article focuses on the effectiveness of group therapy for people struggling with an addiction. With this kind of therapy, a supportive environment is provided where patients are able to connect with their peers who have been experiencing the same struggles and learn the skills for coping with stress that can help patients on their way to recovery.
