Fragrance Foodstuff Pte Ltd Wins Praise for Cage-Free Egg Practice
Sep 9, 2023
Singapore, Singapore Sep 8, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - Fragrance Foodstuff, Singapore's leading food manufacturer of barbecue meats and snacks won praise today from international NGO Lever Foundation for its practice of sourcing only cage-free eggs. Founded in 1969 by Madam Ong, Fragrance is a renowned brand that has become a go-to destination for Singaporeans and one of the fastest-growing chains in the region.
"Our core values are quality, progress, trust and customer satisfaction," said CK Tan, Director at Fragrance Foodstuff. "As a testament to these values, we have consciously decided to exclusively utilize cage-free eggs in our flagship mooncakes and other products. We firmly believe that corporate social responsibility aligns with our relentless pursuit of excellence."
The company's signature products include Bak kwa, floss, sausages, cuttlefish, pastry, mooncakes and tau sar piah.
"Fragrance Foodstuff's decision to use only cage-free for its products reflects the company's dedication to animal welfare and food safety," said Vilosha Sivaraman, Program Manager at Lever Foundation. "We are glad to see such an iconic Singaporean brand prioritizing responsible sourcing and sustainability."
Cage-free eggs are laid by hens free to move around in barns and free-range environments without being confined to small cages. Research shows that cage-free eggs are both more humane to animals and have much higher levels of food safety and quality. The European Food Safety Authority has found cage-free egg farms have up to a 25 times lower risk of contamination from key salmonella strains. As a result, a ban on caged egg production is underway in the European Union and some other global regions. Many international and local organizations encourage a shift to cage-free egg production to benefit public health, animal welfare and sustainability.
A growing number of leading companies have pledged to source only cage-free eggs for their operations in Asia and globally, including Hang Heung, Hokkaido Baby, Au Bon Pain, Le Pain Quotidien, Krispy Kreme and others.
