Carrie Hammer has taken her body positivity advocacy a notch higher after delivering her TED Talk "The Business of Beauty Is Very Ugly." Carrie Hammer is a public speaker, entrepreneur, and provider of fashion-forward, powerful clothing for professional women. Over the years, she has constantly talked about the need for women to embrace their beauty and she again emphasized her stand on the subject when she talked about the unfortunate rise in the use of social media filters and the dangers of living in a world of unrealistic expectations of beauty.
Social media has changed the way people communicate, with Billions of people on various platforms globally. According to recent research published by the National Center for Health Research, over 40% of adolescent girls and over 20% of adolescent boys report using social media for 3 or more hours per day. Several studies have also revealed the prolonged use of social networking sites like TikTok and Instagram are linked to signs and symptoms of depression, low self-esteem, and eating disorders. Unfortunately, there seems to be an inexplicable silence on this subject even as social media tools like filters become increasingly prevalent and Carrie is not ready to accept this lying down.
In a photo recently posted on Instagram, Carrie Hammer shares a FaceTune edited image, taking herself from a size 6 to a size 2 in only 1 minute to show how easy it is for influencers to edit their pictures and deceive unsuspecting fans. The fashion enthusiast aims to highlight the deceit that has flooded the internet in recent times. With the clamor for "beach bod" or a "bikini-ready bod," it has become imperative for women, regardless of their location or race to shun the fake life portrayed by users of social media and aided by filters.
