Dr. Mark Hickman Offers to Reverse a Vasectomy at a Reasonable Price

April 11, 2022 - /PressAdvantage/ - Dr. Mark Hickman, MD, FACS, a surgeon in New Braunfels, TX, who has pioneered a microsurgical method for the reversal of vasectomy, wants everyone to know that he is offering to reverse a vasectomy for men who want to be able to father a child once again at a reasonable price. He is providing an all-inclusive cost for the surgery, which is a surgical procedure that has been proven to be useful also for men who are trying to fight off the onset of male depression after vasectomy.

Dr. Hickman received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX, at the young age of 23. This was followed by extensive training general surgery residence at the University of Texas for five more years. It was at this time that he got introduced to microsurgery with plastic and reconstructive surgeons. He thought it was amazing that microsurgery provided great results while having a substantially reduced impact on the patient.

He launched his private practice in New Braunfels in 1988 and it was not long after that he became one of the pioneers in laparoscopic surgery. He also taught minimally invasive surgery techniques to other surgeons. Later on, he was able to invent a number of surgical instruments and he was awarded several patents, many of which are involved in minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Hickman is one of the vasectomy reversal surgerons who is focused on ensuring that the procedure is affordable. He offers two competitively priced alternatives. One is $3,300, which is an all-inclusive cost that includes an oral sedative and local anesthesia. The other alternative is $4,200, which is also all-inclusive and is performed under IV sedation that is administered by a board certified anesthesiologist. It is guaranteed that there are no hidden costs. He has also made it easier for out of town patients by having exclusive deals with local hotels with the result that patients from out of town can save 50 percent on the cost of their hotel stay.

Dr. Hickman’s method is microsurgical repair of the vas deferens in order to establish a direct alignment of the lumen of the two ends of the vas deferens. He will ensure that the closure is watertight to have a much higher success rate. Dr. Hickman will obtain a fluid sample from the testicular end of the vas deferens and take a look at this under the microscope. There are three possibilities. The first possibility is that the fluid contains whole sperm, which is the best siituation. The second possibility is the fluid is thin and contains only sperm parts but not whole sperm. And the last possible situation is the liquid is pasty and thick and there is no sperm.

The last possibility is known as an epididymal blowout and is due to an obstruction that could have occurred at two points. One is the point of the vasectomy while the other one is a rupture of the tube in the epididymis. If the third situation is encountered, Dr. Hickman will not only need to perform a vasovasostomy. He will also need to do a vasoepididymostomy, which is a microscopic invagination of the epididymal tube into the lumen of the vas deferens with a 10-0 nylon suture. There will be no additional cost even if both procedures have to be done.

Most vasectomy doctors will do a microsurgical vasectomy reversal under local anesthesia. They will make a small incision on each side of the scrotal skin and then use these to find the two ends of the vas deferens and free them from the surrounding scar tissue. Dr. Hickman employs a Zeiss OPMI-MDM operating microscope and 10-0 nylon suture. The goal is to align the lumens of the two ends of the vas deferens and then perform a watertight closure.
