Get to know Neurosurgeon Dr. Deependra Mahato, who serves patients in Modesto, California.
New York City, New York Feb 14, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - An exceptional neurosurgeon, Dr. Mahato currently leads the Surgical Neuro-Oncology department at Sutter Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, California. He has dedicated his career to treating patients with brain and other cancers that have metastasized to the brain. He is particularly known for his expertise in the treatment of pituitary tumors, where he uses high-power endoscopes and navigation to perform minimally invasive surgery through the patient's nose.
In addition to his skills in pituitary tumor treatment, he is also well-versed in addressing tumors in eloquent areas of the brain. He is able to perform surgery while the patient is awake, which not only allows for the safe removal of cancer but in some cases can also reverse the neurological symptoms caused by the tumor. He also has a deep understanding of the anatomy of the brain and skull, making him well-equipped to safely remove even the most complex skull base tumors
Dr. Mahato's background as a migrant from a remote village in Nepal to the United States, where he struggled and worked hard to receive his medical degree from the Western University of Health Sciences, has taught him the importance of being patient-centered. He believes that every patient's treatment should be tailored to their specific needs and situation.
This philosophy has driven him to continue to advance his education and skills, including completing a residency in neurosurgery and a skull base and neuro-oncology fellowship at the prestigious Mayo Clinic under the guidance of renowned neurosurgeon, Dr. Alfredo Quiñones-Hinojosa.
Board-eligible in neurosurgery, Dr. Mahato has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the field of neuro-oncology and is also the co-editor of the book Brain Mapping: Indications and Techniques. He has also been invited to present his work at numerous prestigious institutions such as the Mayo Clinic and the California Neurological Society
Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders that affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, cervical and lumbar disc disease, infections, and head or spinal cord injuries.
On a more personal note, Dr. Mahato is fluent in both English and Hindi.
