California Detox Brings Awareness to Adult Children of Alcoholics
Feb 3, 2024
United States - February 3, 2024 —
California Detox wants to bring awareness to the community known as the Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACOAs). February 11th-17th is ACOA awareness week.
There are an estimated 28.6 million children of alcoholics in the U.S. It’s important to know the personality traits shared by many ACOAs and the long-term effects they can have. Knowing the signs can help those get the help they need.
If oneself or a loved one is struggling with addiction call 949-694-8305 or visit https://californiadetox.com/ to learn more information and explore the best treatment options.
People can take a self-screening quiz to determine if they are an ACOA. Some characteristics and traits include: problems forming/maintaining relationships, isolation, impulsive behaviors, codependency issues, fear of abandonment, anxiety, hypervigilance, inconsistency, inability to control/regulate emotions, fear/avoidance of conflict, communication issues, and problems with authority figures.
It’s important for ACOAs to seek help like therapy or counseling to enter a supportive space to explore their feelings and learn coping strategies. Support groups are another great way to connect with others who understand similar experiences and can help one find community. Establishing boundaries with one’s parents is another important factor for adult children to protect their well-being.
