Author Marianne Bontrager's new book, 'Behind the Scene: Born Amish, Raised Mennonite' is a stirring memoir of healing from abuse and using one's voice to help others
Aug 17, 2022
Marianne Bontrager has completed her new book, "Behind the Scene: Born Amish, Raised Mennonite": a true story of growing up in poverty, a family's dysfunction, and learning to recover from childhood abuse.
"When I was born, my family was Amish," writes Bontrager. "I respect my Amish heritage. My parents, whom I honor, moved on to join the Mennonite church and did the best they could to raise a large family. My intent in writing this book is for those of you who have suffered some form of childhood abuse as I did, and that insight and peace come to you as you read this story. Walk with me as my journey plays out, and hopefully it will give you tools to unlock any wounds in your heart on your journey toward healing.
"I believe that this is prevalent enough among the Amish that leadership does not know what or how to deal with it. It has mainly been pushed under the carpet in secrecy for many. As for myself, it popped up in other unhealthy decisions I made because of the 'no talk' rule."
Bontrager continues, "My prayer is that the reader of this book can heal from shame and be able to know how much you are loved by God. Christ came to heal the brokenhearted."
Published by Covenant Books of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Marianne Bontrager's new book will take readers on a harrowing journey, revealing the abuse and struggles that shaped the author's adult life and influenced certain unhealthy decisions. Initially vowing to hide what had occurred, Bontrager now brings her story to light in the hopes of connecting with those who have faced abuse as well and desire a way to heal from it and find closure.
Readers can purchase "Behind the Scene: Born Amish, Raised Mennonite" at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
